YEAR OF MERCY DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE, AUGUST 23RD-25TH, 2016
Bishop John cordially invites you and your parishioners to the Diocesan Pilgrimage for the Year of Mercy.  The pilgrimage will take you to the three Marian Shrines of Wisconsin:  The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians at Holy Hill in Hubertus and the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse.  A bulletin insert, as well as bulletin announcement are available.  Addendum #1: Year of Mercy Pilgrimage Flyer and Addendum #2: Year of Mercy Pilgrimage Itinerary.
 

ACTION ALERTS-SIGN UP TO KEEP INFORMED ON PERTINENT ISSUES 
To help keep Catholics informed of pertinent issues on both the State and National level, I encourage Catholics to sign up for notices from the Michigan Catholic Conference and the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.  These vehicles issue timely notices and information on issues pertinent to the Catholic Church. 
 
If you have not already signed up for these action alerts, I encourage you to do so.  I would also ask you to help me spread the word about these valuable resources that help to keep Catholics informed and enable them to take timely action on important issues.

DIRECT MAILING FROM THE BISHOP
Coming up in mid-June, the third annual “Prayer Intention Card” mailing from the Bishop’s Office will be direct-mailed to all registered households. Helping to fulfill one of his primary obligations, to pray for the people of the Diocese of Marquette, Bishop John Doerfler invites parishioners to send personal prayer requests. Returned prayer cards are kept in his chapel, where he will pray for the intentions for the next year. Please encourage your parishioners to respond. A bulletin announcement is attached for your convenience.

CLERGY ATTENDING STEUBENVILLE YOUTH CONFERENCE 
Any priest of the diocese that will be attending the Steubenville Youth Conference July 22nd-24th, 2016, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, with students from their parish may send an email to mbernier@dioceseofmarquette.org to be included in the group letter of good standing that will be sent to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

NEW SAFE ENVIRONMENT POLICY FOR THE DIOCESE OF MARQUETTE 
After consultation with the Presbyteral Council and the Independent Review Board for the Diocese of Marquette, Bishop John Doerfler has decreed that the updated Safe Environment Policy shall succeed all former policies as of May 1, 2016.
 
Please read carefully this updated policy and make it available to all persons as described on page 9 of the policy, and to anyone else who may have interest in it or who may enable safer ministerial environments because of their reading and understanding of it.  This updated Safe Environment Policy can be accessed on the diocesan website by going to the Administration link and then clicking on Policy Manuals.

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD
Training for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is being held from August 22- August 27th at Holy Name School in Escanaba from 9 am – 4:30 pm.  Each day will begin with Mass at 8 am at St. Anne’s.  Carolyn Kohlhass will be the trainer for this event.  For more information or to register email Kate Swanson: kswanson@holynamecrusaders.com.
 

DIOCESAN EVANGLIZATION SUMMIT 
On Saturday, August 27 the Diocese of Marquette will be hosting a Diocesan Evangelization Summit at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette.  All the Catholic faithful and particularly ecclesial movements from across the diocese such as the Knights of Columbus, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Third Order Secular Carmelites, and others are invited to come be renewed in their zeal to evangelize and learn new strategies to do so at this event.  Fr. Ryan Moravitz of the Diocese of Duluth will lead us in reflecting on the ways we are able to proclaim, celebrate, and live Jesus Christ who is alive in the gospel and alive in the Church today!  The cost of the daylong event is $15 and registration is now open.  You can register by going to www.dioceseofmarquette.org/forms.  For more information contact Denise Foye at 906-227-9130, 800-562-9745 ext. 130, or dfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org.

2016 PAR (Parish Annual Report)
This year’s Parish Annual Report is moving online! A comprehensive online form has been developed and can be found on the Diocesan website under the Administration, Offices, Administration and Finance, PAR section. PAR submissions are due to the Diocese by July 31, 2016 and must include Balance Sheet and Income Statement attachments. We strongly encourage parishes to utilize this online form to promote a more efficient reporting system. For your convenience, hard copies of the PAR and the PAR Checklist can also be found in Addendum #3 and Addendum #4, as well as on the Diocesan website. The Governance Report is due September 30, 2016 and has been included in Addendum #5. Completed reports or questions should be sent directly to Irene McCauley at imccauley@dioceseofmarquette.org or at 1-800-562-9745, ext. 135.
 

SUMMER CENSUS FORM
The 2016 Summer Census form and memo (listing those parishes/missions required to take the count) are included as Addendum #6 and Addendum #7. Please count all people present at Mass (during the month of August), regardless of age, and return completed forms to the diocesan offices located at 1004 Harbor Hills Drive, Marquette (Attention: Angelina Juidici) by Friday, September 2, 2016.  Please complete a separate one for each parish and mission.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Angelina at ajuidici@dioceseofmarquette.org or at 1-800-562-9745, ext. 101.

Peter’s Pence Collection (Collection for the Holy Father)
The Peter’s Pence Collection enables the Holy Father to respond with emergency financial assistance to requests to aid the neediest throughout the world—those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. It likewise provides the faithful with a tangible opportunity to not only empower the weak, defenseless, and voiceless, but also sustain those who suffer.  A bulletin announcement is available below.

LEGACY OF FAITH CATHOLIC SERVICE AWARD
The 2016 Legacy of Faith Catholic Service Award recipients are Deacon John Cadeau of Most Holy Name of Jesus/Blessed Kateri, Baraga and Janet Pattan of St. Joseph, Perkins.  Recipients will be honored at their home parish over the summer. Each parish also receives a $250 LOF grant for faith formation in honor of the recipient. Please feel free to extend congratulations and gratitude to these individuals for their faithful witness to the faith and service to the Church!

A “how-to” manual is available on our website for a 3-week offertory program that focuses on helping a parish to meet its short and mid-term budgetary needs, and speaks very directly about the budgetary needs of the parish. MONTHLY STEWARDSHIP HOUR
Reminder – second Tuesday of each month from 2-3pm Eastern is “stewardship hour.” Please keep your parish councils & committees informed of these FREE learning opportunities. Feedback from priests and lay who have watched the webinars is very positive: “affirming,” “very inspiring,” “I will share this with our Evangelization Committee.”
