Priests or Deacons of the diocese that will be traveling outside of the Diocese of Marquette should request a Letter of Good Standing prior to their departure. As the letter needs to be signed by the Chancellor, the request should be submitted as soon as possible. ELEVATION OF THE MEMORIAL OF ST. MARY MAGDALENE TO A FEAST
Pope Francis has elevated the Memorial of Saint Mary Magdalene, the Apostle to the Apostles, to the rank of a Feast. This takes effect for this year’s celebration of her Feast Day on Friday, July 22. The following changes are applied to the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours.
There is also a new Latin Preface. It will take one or two years before it is translated into English, in the interim please use Preface I or II of Saints for English Ordinary Form Masses. The Latin Ordinary Form may use the new Preface. Questions may be emailed to email@example.com.
- “The Gloria in excelsis Deo is sung or said at Mass.
- The proper readings for St. Mary Magdalene in the Lectionary for Mass (no. 603) are proclaimed instead of the readings from Ordinary Time weekday.

1ST ANNUAL DIOCESAN YOUTH CHOIR CAMP!
The Diocesan Youth Choir Camp, which will be held at St. Peter Cathedral, Aug. 8-12 / 9:00am-5:00pm, is a unique music experience for youth ages 10-17. Youth will have the opportunity to develop their voices and sharpen their musical skills. The cost of the camp is $30 per family and includes daily lunch and materials. Scholarships are available for financial assistance. Interested families should complete a camp registration form which can be requested from your parish office or found at: Addendum #3. A bulletin announcement is available.
NEW ORDER OF CELEBRATING MATRIMONY
This newly translated ritual can be used beginning September 8th, 2016 but must be used after December 30, 2016. The new ritual books will be available from most of its publishers after August 25th. This office will be taking orders for the new books in mid-August for approximately $25.00 each with hard leather-bound covers. Watch for a link to the order form in next month’s Communicator.
SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
The Solemnity of the Assumption this year is not a Holy Day of Obligation because it falls on Monday, however, that day is still a feast day and the readings and prayers for the feast day must to be used. Since the Vigil is a Sunday, no Vigil Mass should be celebrated.

SOUND AMPLIFICATION SYSTEM AVAILABLE FOR HEARING IMPAIRED
All Saints Church has a sound amplification system for the hearing impaired that they would like to give away. All Saints recently installed a new system. The system they are looking to give away is in working order and could easily/quickly be installed in almost any church sound system. It includes a transmitter (similar to one used for a wireless microphone), several personal receivers, and matching ear hearing devices. The transmitter plugs into an electrical outlet and then is linked to the current church PA system by a common sound cable. The personal receivers are powered by AA batteries. As the beginning of the school year approaches, our campus ministries around the diocese are getting ready to welcome incoming freshman and transfer students to our campuses! One thing that is of great help to us is to know who the Catholic students are who are coming, especially those from our own diocese. We are all aware of how many young adults lose their faith in college, so help us overcome this challenge!
Please contact the appropriate campus ministry with names and contact information (especially: home mailing address, cell phone number, email) for any students you know will be starting on one of our campuses, so we can reach out to them and invite them to be involved. If you know they have experience as altar servers, lectors, musicians, etc., that is also helpful!

DIOCESAN EVANGELIZATION SUMMIT
Register today for the Diocesan Evangelization Summit. It will be held on Saturday, August 27 at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. All the Catholic faithful and particularly ecclesial movements from across the diocese such as the Knights of Columbus, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Third Order Secular Carmelites, and others are invited to come be renewed in their zeal to evangelize and learn new strategies to do so at this event. Fr. Ryan Moravitz of the Diocese of Duluth will lead us in reflecting on the ways we are able to proclaim, celebrate, and live Jesus Christ who is alive in the gospel and alive in the Church today! CONFIRMATION TIMELINE MEMO
All Priests, Pastoral Coordinators, Deacons, Faith Formation Coordinators and Parish Secretaries should have received an email from the Office of the Bishop on June 21 regarding Confirmation scheduling in 2017. The Faith Formation Coordinators also received an additional email on June 22 asking them to provide their pastors with the number of estimated confirmands for their parish(es) and missions for 2017. This will assist the Vicar Forane and priests of your vicariate in scheduling Confirmation.

CHILDREN'S SAFE ENVIRONMENT
Parish and Catholic School reports were due to the Office of Youth Ministry by April 29, 2016. This training must be done each year, and the diocese is audited by the United States’ Bishops every year. This year we have an on-site audit scheduled with parish and school visits taking place. If you have not submitted your report please do so promptly.

The U.P. Catholic occasionally publishes a list of Eucharistic Adoration times for parishes across the diocese. GOOD SHEPHERD COLLECTION RESULTS
Results from the recent collection are still coming into the diocese, to date parishes have sent or reported $86,539.01 (gross) to date for this annual collection. If you have not yet submitted your collection amount please send in your amount immediately as the deadline was June 1st, 2016.
2016 PAR (Parish Annual Report)
This year’s Parish Annual Report is moving online! A comprehensive online form has been developed and can be found on the Diocesan website under the Administration, Offices, Administration and Finance, PAR section. PAR submissions are due to the Diocese by July 31, 2016 and must include Balance Sheet and Income Statement attachments. We strongly encourage parishes to utilize this online form to promote a more efficient reporting system. For your convenience, hard copies of the PAR and the PAR Checklist can also be found in Addendum #6 and Addendum #7, as well as on the Diocesan website. The Governance Report is due September 30, 2016 and has been included in Addendum #8. The 2016 Summer Census form and memo (listing those parishes/missions required to take the count) are included as

UPCSA KICK OFF
Bishop Doerfler will again send a direct mail to all registered households in early September to kick off the UP Catholic Services Appeal. Like last year, the mailing will include a personalized cover letter from the Bishop, a “Gifts at Work” newsletter and a personalized pledge card and reply envelope for parishioners to return to their parish. The early ask by the Bishop is NOT intended to take the place of the parish appeal, but to enhance and unify the parish effort with the Bishop’s leadership and message.
UPCSA WEEKEND IS SEPTEMBER 24/25, 2016
The theme is “Love Powers Our Mission”. UPCSA materials will be distributed to churches in August. Included are tri-fold brochures to be distributed with the pledge cards and authorization cards. Single-fold Bulletin Inserts should be placed inside the parish bulletins on UPCSA weekend. The “record of pledges” spreadsheet, used to transmit your parish member pledge and payment info to the diocese, will be emailed to your parish by late August. The UPCSA handbook, containing updated timelines, tips, sample letters and other useful information you need, will be available on our website at www.dioceseofmarquette.org by the end of August. UPCSA goals will be emailed to parishes in early September, as soon as they can be calculated and approved. DIOCESAN PUBLICATIONS OFFERING THREE DAYS OF PDS TRAINING
Diocesan Publications will offer three days of PDS training in July. The cost is $100 per day ($80 per day if your PDS support is through Diocesan Publications) and participants can sign up for one, two, or three days. DEVELOPMENT "IN THE FIELD"
Special thanks for Gary & Dee Benjamin of Iron Mountain for hosting a reception at their home to benefit the Seminarian Endowment. At the reception we heard personal testimony from seminarian Dustin Larson, who spent a pastoral year at St. Mary Queen of Peace in Kingsford. His testimony inspired dialogue about additional ways to grow the endowment.
St. Francis De Sales, Manistique and Divine Infant of Prague, Gulliver realized a 34% increase in average weekly offertory and a 16% increase in average weekly attendance in response to their Increased Offertory program using the Diocese of Marquette program. They also had 7 new families sign up for automatic withdrawal for their offertory, and plan to continue promoting this method of giving, which will help to keep income steady throughout the year.
Sacred Heart, L’Anse realized an outstanding 56% response to their Increased Offertory program, conducted by Our Sunday Visitor. They are calculating outcomes to present to their parishioners in July. We will communicate some of those outcomes for you in our August issue of the Diocesan Communicator.
