DIOCESAN DAY OF CONSECRATED LIFE
Our brothers and sisters in Christ living consecrated lives make great contributions to our society, our diocese, our parishes and our parishioners. I welcome you and your parishioners to join me in celebrating the lives of these men and women who serve in many capacities and have dedicated their lives to contemplative prayer, teaching in our schools, taking care of the poor and the sick and bringing compassion and the love of Christ to those shunned by society.
Your observance on November 13, 2016, of this Diocesan Day of Consecrated Life in your parish(es) may include the “Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life” (See Addendum #1), a focus on consecrated life in your homily, promoting vocations to consecrated life and honoring women religious and others who live a consecrated life who serve in your parish(es). Please see the attached Prayers of the Faithful that may be used on the Diocesan Day of Consecrated Life or throughout the year to pray for vocations.
PROCESS TO BECOME A RECOGNIZED CATHOLIC LAY ASSOCIATION
The Diocese of Marquette, as part of our commitment to providing services to lay organizations who wish to be recognized as "Catholic," and to lay organizations who share or teach the faith to members of the diocese, its parishes and schools, has established the “Process to Become a Recognized Catholic Lay Association” policy. The policy and application to assist such organizations to obtain the necessary approval to use the title "Catholic" or to be recognized as "Catholic" in the Diocese of Marquette can be found at Addendum #2 and Addendum #3.

PRIEST & DEACON LETTERS OF GOOD STANDING
Priests or Deacons of the diocese that will be traveling outside of the Diocese of Marquette should request a Letter of Good Standing prior to their departure. As the letter needs to be signed by the Chancellor, the request should be submitted as soon as possible. To submit a Priest Letter of Good Standing Request, complete the online form at: Priest Letter of Good Standing Request Form. MUSICAL COMPONENTS AVAILABLE AND CINCTURES NEEDED
Francis de Sales Parish has upgraded to the Bell system and a new PA system. Therefore, they have some old components that they would be willing to give away to any parish that needs them. Also, St. Francis de Sales parish is in need of old cinctures that would be about 19' long. If your parish has any cinctures that would be available, please contact St. Francis de Sales at 906-341-5355.
DEPARTMENT OF EVANGELIZATOIN AND EDUCATION
Scheduling of the celebration of Confirmation in the vicariates for 2017 is finalized. To assist with the gathering of all the necessary information needed, an application form has been developed for use in the parishes. It was emailed to all pastors, parish secretaries, and faith formation coordinators on October 11 from the Office of the Bishop. RCIA CANDIDATES MARITIAL STATUS
A reminder to Pastors, Pastoral Coordinators and the RCIA team of the importance of determining the marriage situation of the RCIA candidate and the candidate’s spouse which may require an annulment before he/she may enter the Church at Easter. If the candidate or the candidate’s current spouse has been married previously, an investigation into these marriages must be made immediately at the onset of the RCIA in the fall. Annulment applications coming to the Marriage Tribunal after the first of the year cannot be completed by Easter. A questionnaire that may be helpful to you is found in Addendum #5.

403(b) RETIREMENT PLAN MAXIMUM CONTRIBUTIONS FOR 2016
Please be aware the maximum contribution per individual is $18,000, unless the employee is age 50 or over. Members over 50 years of age are allowed an additional "catch-up" contribution of $6,000. Since there still are several months left in 2016, it is a good time to evaluate your individual contributions to your 403(b) plan. Are you maximizing the amount you can contribute? PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH (WORLD MISSION SUNDAY) - OCTOBER 16, 2016
This collection takes place on Sunday, October 16th. Parishes are requested to send their collection to the diocese no later than November 25, 2016. Your ongoing support of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,150 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, parts of Latin American and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific. Your generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious, and catechists to reach out to communities, families and children in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances. The World Mission Sunday celebration highlights the outreach of local churches through priests, religious and laity among the poor and marginalized half a world away. Life-changing help is provided to mission churches in territories covering more than half the globe. ARCHDIOCESE OF MILITARY SERVICES - NOVEMBER 6, 2016
The collection, to be taken up in Catholic churches throughout the United States at weekend Masses Nov. 5-6, 2016, will support pastoral service and ministry to Catholic families in the U.S. Military and patients in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers throughout the country. The first collection, taken in 2013, has raised more than $8,239,000—funds that will support AMS programs and services, including Vocations, Evangelization, Sacramental Records, the Tribunal, and Veterans Affairs.

Payment of Legacy of Faith approved grants for 2016-17 to parishes and Catholic schools is scheduled for early November. Submit evaluations with a due date of 10/31/2016 or sooner to avoid delayed payment. Grant extensions may be requested for extenuating circumstances. PARISH USE OF VOTER GUIDES
The Internal Revenue Code prohibits charitable organizations, including churches, from participating or intervening in political campaigns on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for political office. Permissible activities include distribution of unbiased voter guides. Please refer to the Voter Guides Addendum #8 when preparing to distribute parish voter guides for the upcoming election. CATHOLIC ANSWERS SPEAKER SERIES AT CATHEDRAL
Trent Horn from Catholic Answers will be presenting a two day lecture series in November 2016. These lectures will be free to the public. Mr. Horn specializes in training pro-lifers to intelligently and compassionately engage pro-choice advocates in genuine dialogue. He holds a master's degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville and is the author of Answering Atheism: How to Make the Case for God with Logic and Charity.
