OFFICE OF THE BISHOP
Bishop John F. Doerfler

WEEKLY WEEKEND MASS ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Bishop John has requested that all parishes submit a total weekly weekend Mass Attendance count (for all Vigil and Sunday Masses combined) each week, beginning the first weekend of July, 2017.  The weekly Mass Attendance counts will give us a baseline for our Mass attendance as we work together to increase Mass attendance through evangelization efforts discussed in Bishop John’s Pastoral Letter on Evangelization, entitled:  “Transforming Fire: A New Pentecost to form Spirit-Filled Evangelizers.”

Weekly weekend Mass attendance counts will be taken for a five year period.      If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Bishop at (906) 227-9115.

EVANGELIZATION PRAYER CARDS FOR PARISHES
Prayer cards have been ordered and received to be distributed to all parishes with Bishop John’s “Prayer for the Formation of Spirit-Filled Evangelizers”.  The prayer cards will be distributed to the priests attending the Priests’ Convocation, September 11-14, 2017 or will be distributed sooner if diocesan staff will be coming to your parish or if the pastor is scheduled to attend a meeting at the diocesan office prior to the Convocation.  20,000 prayer cards are available.

In addition, parishioners who return their Prayer Intention Card sent to them by Bishop John Doerfler will receive a postcard acknowledging receipt of their prayer intention request which also contains the evangelization prayer.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT
A reminder that all Employees and Volunteers in the Diocese of Marquette must undergo a complete background check, register a training account at VIRTUS.ORG and, complete the Safe Environment training prior to or, on their first day of employment or volunteering (Addendum #2). In late 2015, the background check process changed and is now completely electronic.  Please make sure your location has the most current Background check instructions (Addendum #3) and Protecting God’s Children Safe Environment training information (Addendum #4). The Protecting God’s Children training can be assigned as an on-line course or taken in a classroom. The classroom schedule is available at VIRTUS.ORG (Addendum #5).  Access to the Safe Environment Diocesan-wide roster was e-mailed to every Safe Environment Coordinator in June. This roster is now a Google Sheet, which makes it real-time. Please review this list to ensure it is accurate. If you did not receive the link to this roster, or, if there is an error or omission on your list, please contact Martha Tomasi @ (906) 227-9155 or Mtomasi@dioceseofmarquette.org.
