150th ANNIVERSARY EVENT OF VENERABLE BISHOP BARAGA
Mark your calendar now for the 150th Anniversary event of Venerable Bishop Baraga: Celebrating his life, commemorating his death. The two day event will be held Friday January 19 and Saturday January 20, 2018 at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette.

DEPARTMENT OF EVANGELIZATION & EDUCATION
This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 17, 2017. The 2017 theme will be "Living as Missionary Disciples." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. FALL EVANGELIZATION WORKSHOPS
To assist parishes in the formation of a parish evangelization plan as called for by Bishop John’s Pastoral Letter on Evangelization, the Department of Evangelization & Education will be conducting workshops in each vicariate for pastors and their leadership teams. The workshop will include recommendations on how to develop the plan along with the template to be used to submit parish plans to the diocese. The dates for these gatherings are as follows:

RCIA CANDIDATES MARITAL STATUS
A reminder to Pastors, Pastoral Coordinators and the RCIA team of the importance of determining the marriage situation of the RCIA candidate and the candidate’s spouse which may require an annulment before he/she may enter the Church at Easter. If the candidate or the candidate’s current spouse has been married previously, an investigation into these marriages must be made immediately at the onset of the RCIA in the fall. Annulment applications coming to the Marriage Tribunal after the first of the year cannot be completed by Easter. A questionnaire that may be helpful to you is found in Addendum #1 to this communicator.

Saturday November 4, 2017 is See the See, the Jr. High youth rally! Ben Walther will be returning to lead the day’s talks, music, and general fun. NET DATES AVAILABLE
The NET (National Evangelization Team) is available to lead retreats around the Diocese of Marquette. The NET Team and ministered in our diocese of decades! They offer excellent retreats geared for High School Confirmation. You could sponsor your own retreat, or collaborate with other parishes in your town/area/vicariate. The available dates are as follows:

A series of “Freedom to Serve” ads, produced by Michigan Catholic Conference, are currently being seen on television. OCTOBER ROSARY RALLIES
Each year, America Needs Fatima holds the Public Square Rosary Crusade, with thousands of rosary rallies in cities all across the country simultaneously praying for our country and the world. These Public Square Rosary Rallies take place on the closest Saturday to Oct. 13, feast of the last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima and the Miracle of the Sun, with this year being the centennial. If your parish or group is hosting a rosary rally this Oct. 14, or during the month, please send the date, time and location as well as the sponsor to The U.P. UPCSA WEEKEND IS SEPTEMBER 23/24, 2017
The theme for our 50th UPCSA is “Go into my Vineyard”. UPCSA materials have been distributed to churches. Included are tri-fold brochures to be distributed with the pledge cards and authorization cards. Single-fold Bulletin Inserts should be placed inside the parish bulletins on UPCSA weekend. The record of pledges spreadsheet, used to transmit your parish member pledge and payment info to the diocese, will be emailed to your parish soon. The UPCSA handbook, containing updated timelines, tips, sample letters and other useful information you need, is available now on our website at www.dioceseofmarquette.org/upcsa along with other resources. BISHOP'S AMBASSADORS ORGANIZATION HAS EXPANDED
The Legacy of Faith Bishop’s Ambassadors organization has expanded from exclusively Legacy of Faith donors to include any donor who meets the $25,000 gift commitment criteria to any endowed fund of the diocese. The Bishop’s Ambassadors organization, which is now under the umbrella of the Upper Peninsula Catholic Foundation, serves to pass on the Catholic faith through endowment building and grant making.
