OFFICE OF THE BISHOP
Bishop John F. Doerfler

UPCSA BISHOP'S PARTNERS IN SERVICE (BPS) MASS 20TH
Invitations from Bishop John have been direct mailed to over 1,200 parish families who made leadership gifts to the 50th UPCSA, to attend a special Mass of Thanksgiving on May 20. Pastors recently received an email from the Bishop’s Office naming their parishioners who are members of BPS, and are encouraged to attend with them. BPS members represented just 14% of all UPCSA contributors and gave over half of the appeal income. New this year, those who stay for the reception following Mass will be included in a drawing for six BPS members to dine with the bishop at his residence in June. Please refer to Addendum #1 which is the memo to all priests and pastoral coordinators which was sent from the Bishop on March 12, 2018 via email and U.S. mail.

WEEKLY WEEKEND MASS ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Please continue to input your weekly weekend Mass attendance counts (for all Vigil and Sunday Masses combined) each week.  The weekly Mass Attendance counts will give us a baseline for our Mass attendance as we work together to increase Mass attendance through evangelization efforts discussed in Bishop John’s Pastoral Letter on Evangelization, entitled:  “Transforming Fire: A New Pentecost to form Spirit-Filled Evangelizers”.  If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Bishop at (906)-227-9115.

RED FLAG REPORTING INSIGHTS
Please take a moment to read the information below from Red Flag Reporting. It provides a practical reminder of the many ways we can all protect our co-workers and our organization.

As always, we encourage you to speak directly with management when you have any concerns regarding unethical behavior, safety concerns (use 9-1-1 for emergencies) or theft, but Red Flag Reporting is in place for when you don’t feel comfortable approaching management directly or you are not sure who to contact. This service is in place to protect all of us. It is important to remember that we utilize Red Flag Reporting because your safety, your work environment, our good name and the viability of our organization are very important to us.

As a reminder, our client code for filing a report is 8005629745.

Empowering Employees

For many years, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) has identified employee hotlines as one of the most effective methods for detecting fraudulent activity.  Why is this important?  Well, for one thing the damages from fraudulent activity are a significant source of job losses for innocent people.  But beyond financial concerns, hotlines can be very effective for detecting and deterring many other types of unsafe and unethical behavior.

This chart from the ACFE shows the most common ways people report financial concerns:

The good news: Red Flag Reporting provides you reporting opportunities using all of these options!  The phone number and web address are as previously provided to you.  You may also:

BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS

ST. JOSEPH ASSOCIATION (GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY) COLLECTION:
Bulletin Insert #1
For Weekend of April 14th/15th
Retired priests of the Diocese of Marquette receive health and automobile insurance and a monthly pension from the St. Joseph Association, the diocesan priest retirement fund.  Diocesan priests live independently during their retirement, and they use their pension for basic needs, such as food, housing and transportation.  Parish assessments, plus growth in the St. Joseph Association, have fallen short of what is needed to provide necessary benefits to our retired priests.

All parishes and missions in the Diocese of Marquette will participate in a special collection on April 21st/22nd help “bridge the gap.”  It is essential that we ensure adequate retirement and health coverage in the years ahead for our priests.  Please return your collection envelope during next weekends’ Masses.

Bulletin Insert #2
For Collection Weekend April 21st/22nd
This weekend all parishes and missions in the Diocese of Marquette are holding a Good Shepherd Sunday special collection to support our priests’ retirement fund, called the St. Joseph Association.  This collection directly benefits priests of the Diocese of Marquette and is completely separate from the annual December collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, which supports retired clergy and sisters of religious orders across America.

Please prayerfully reflect on how you can best help support our own priests’ retirement and return your envelope in the collection or drop it off at the parish.

Bulletin Insert #3
Two Weeks Following Collection Weekend MAY 5th/6th
On Good Shepherd Sunday, our parish and all parishes and missions throughout our diocese took up a special collection to support our priests’ retirement fund, called the St. Joseph Association.  Collectively, our parishioners have raised $_AMOUNT_ to date.  We truly appreciate your support.  If you were unable to use your envelope last weekend, you may still do so.
