PARISH/SCHOOL FINANCE COUNCIL REPORTING REMINDERS
PARISH AND SCHOOL SECRETARY/BOOKKEEPER WORKSHOP 2019
Parish and school secretaries and bookkeepers will receive a survey in early January to provide input for the upcoming Secretary/Bookkeeper Workshop, which will be held in the second full week of May 2019. We encourage all parish/school secretaries and bookkeepers to complete this survey offering feedback on subjects such as alternate locations, overnight availability, and requested workshop topics. An email regarding on-line registration (using JotForm) will be sent to all parishes once survey results are received. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you this spring!
- Detailed minutes should be kept to document all key decisions made by Parish/School Finance Councils. The minutes need to clearly indicate the Finance Council’s review and approval of periodic financial statements (balance sheet and income statement as well as budget to actual), check register, annual budget, pay rates, and major expenditures.
- As an additional level of control over cash disbursements, it is recommended all Parish/School Finance Councils receive a detailed check register identifying all disbursement made since the last meeting. The listing should identify the check number, date, payee, and amount.
DOCUMENT PRESERVATION REMINDER
The U.S. Justice Department has directed Bishop Doerfler to ensure that all data/documents related to the open investigation of sexual misconduct involving minors are preserved. Our attorney has prepared a letter listing all documents that are to be preserved in Addendum #9. Please read this document and take great care to ensure that none of the documents listed in the letter are destroyed. If you have any questions regarding the preservation or destruction of any documents, please contact Tim Thomas in the Department of Administration & Finance. Remember, always err on the side of caution regarding document preservation.

MISSION COMBINED COLLECTION - JANUARY 12TH-13TH, 2019
BLACK & INDIAN MISSIONS
The Black and Indian Mission Collection exists to help local African American and Native American diocesan communities throughout the United States spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and respond to real and pressing needs. This collection advances causes important to native and African American Catholics.
CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS
“Home Missions” is the name for dioceses and parishes in the United States, including its territories and former territories, which cannot provide basic pastoral services to Catholics without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass and sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters and lay people.
SOLIDARITY FUND FOR THE CHURCH IN AFRICA
While the Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care. Many suffer due to high rates of poverty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. The Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa supports pastoral projects that foster lasting peace and reconciliation in a continent often marked by division and tension.
PROPAGATION OF THE FAITH
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,111 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, parts of Latin America and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific. Your generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious, and catechists to reach out to communities, families and children in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances covering more than half the globe.
U.P. CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER COLLECTION - FEBRUARY 9TH-10TH, 2019
Support your parish by supporting The U.P. Catholic Newspaper collection on February 9th-10th, 2019. Your donation goes to your parish to help pay its portion of the subscription cost for the diocesan newspaper, which is mailed to all registered Catholic households. If your parish does not take up this collection, you can still contribute by placing your donation in an envelope marked “The U.P. Catholic Newspaper” and dropping it in your parish collection basket or at your parish office.
DIOCESAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS COLLECTION - MARCH 6TH-10TH, 2019
The Marquette Diocesan Catholic Schools collection is March 6th (Ash Wednesday) or March 10th (first Sunday of Lent). Funds from this collection support all nine of our Catholic Schools in their mission to teach our Catholic Liberal Arts curriculum, which forms our children both spiritually and academically. Your support provides critical tuition assistance for families who might not otherwise be able to send their children to a Catholic school. An envelope has been provided for registered parishioners to participate in this year’s collection. We thank you in advance for your generous support of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Marquette!
