ORDER OF CONFIRMATION
Due to the cancellation of the fall Vicariate Confirmations, many priests will be requesting faculties to confirm youth within their parishes (see below for procedure.) For your information, the date of the currently retranslated Confirmation Rite is 2016. The older rite may not be used. This new rite, The Order of Confirmation, can be ordered from the USCCB by clicking on this link: http://store.usccb.org/The-Order-of-Confirmation-p/7-521.htm.
If you have Catechumens (those baptized in a different Christian faith) whom you will be Confirming, they must go through the Celebration of Reception during the Confirmation rite. This is found in the RCIA book. Attached is a single page pdf that can be printed and used instead of the RCIA book. If you print this and tape it in your Order of Confirmation book you will not have to juggle several books. It can be found in ADDENDUM #1.
If you have any questions contact Deacon Tom Foye, firstname.lastname@example.org or 906.362.2002.

FALL VICARIATE CONFIRMATIONS CANCELLED
Given the continuing spread of COVID-19 and limited church capacity and other precautionary measures to limit the spread of the virus, Bishop John has cancelled the fall vicariate confirmations. It is his intention to delegate the pastors to confer the sacrament on their students.
To receive delegation, the pastor will need to send a letter or email to the Office of the Bishop listing the names of the baptized Catholics from your parish that he wishes to confirm. Then Bishop will issue a letter granting the pastor the faculty to confirm them.
If you have any questions contact Denise Foye, email@example.com or 906.227.9130.
GUIDELINES FOR OPENING PARISH FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMS
During this pandemic, to ensure the health and safety of our catechists, staff, volunteers, and students in parish faith formation programs guidelines for the opening of programs this fall have been developed and approved by the Bishop. They are can be found by clicking here. They are also attached as ADDENDUM #2.
CATECHETICAL SUNDAY RESOURCES
This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 20, 2020. The 2020 theme will be "I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you." Those who the Community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
The USCCB offers several resources to assist parishes as they acknowledge their catechists and families in this important ministry in the Church which can be found at https://www.usccb.org/committees/evangelization-catechesis/leadership-institute-catechetical-sunday-2020.
NEW DIRECTORY FOR CATECHESIS
The new Directory for Catechesis, approved by Pope Francis on March 23, 2020, was published in English in late July. The new Directory provides guidelines for catechesis and presents universal norms to guide pastors and catechists in the work of evangelization. It also places catechetical instruction and formation of catechetical teachers clearly within the realm of evangelization.
The Directory affirms the presentation of the Catholic faith articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as a sound point of reference for instruction while drawing deeply from Scripture and the writings of recent popes, especially Pope Francis’s Evangelii Gaudium.
The Directory is indispensable for all those responsible for formal religious instruction, including pastors and parish priests, deacons, lay and religious catechists, and religious education teachers in dioceses, parishes, and schools. It can be purchased from the USCCB store.

As a reminder, the proceeds received from the PPP loans should be booked as a loan payable (liability) until forgiveness is granted. Amounts forgiven will be misc. income.
PAYMENT SUSPENSIONS FROM APRIL 1 - SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

Please note that diocesan staff will continue to bill during this period. Parishes and schools are asked to continue payments for these debts and services if they are able to do so.
NATIONAL CHURCH COMBINED COLLECTION - AUGUST 15/16TH, 2020.
All parishes in the Diocese of Marquette will be taking up the 2020 National Church Collection on August 15/16th, 2020. The National Church Collection supports the following outreach ministries to the Universal Church: the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the National Retirement Fund for Religious, and the Catholic University Collection. Parish bookkeepers are advised to divide unspecified National Church fund donations evenly between the three individual collections using the Collection Counting Sheet. Bookkeepers may then complete their Combined Collection Transmittal forms to include with their payment to the Diocese. These collection resources can be found at dioceseofmarquette.org/administrativepolicies. Please make checks out to “Diocese of Marquette-National Church Collection.”
Please see the Bulletin Announcements section for an announcement that can be placed in your parish bulletins to promote this collection. Parishes may also print and use the ADDENDUM #3. National Church Collection flyer as an optional bulletin insert. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.
ST. JOSEPH ASSOCIATION (GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY) COLLECTION - SEPTEMBER 5/6TH, 2020
Due to the suspension of Masses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Good Shepherd Collection was postponed earlier this year. The collection has been rescheduled to be taken up at all parishes on September 5/6th, 2020 over Labor Day weekend.
Because of the unprecedented collection cancellation, a small number of parishioners donated to this collection using designated collection envelopes. Pastors and Pastoral Coordinators should thank those who donated towards the local priest retirement fund and encourage those who were not able to donate to support the collection by marking a blank envelope for the benefit of the “Good Shepherd Sunday Collection” and dropping it in the collection basket on September 5/6th, 2020. Parishioners may also elect to donate to the St. Joseph Association online by visiting dioceseofmarquette.org/giving.
New materials to promote the collection can be found in ADDENDUM #4 and were emailed to all pastors, associate pastors, and pastoral coordinators on July 8th, 2020. Please see the Bulletin Announcements section for announcements which can be placed in upcoming parish bulletins to promote this collection.

NATIONAL CHURCH COMBINED COLLECTION - AUGUST 15/16TH, 2020
This collection combines three special causes that aid the Church in America.
Catholic Campaign for Human Development
Over 46 million people in the United States live in poverty. This collection supports programs to empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring the permanent and positive change to their communities. In addition, 25 percent of funds collection remain in our diocese to fund local anti-poverty projects. Last year local grants were given to the St. Francis Connection Center and Catholic Social Services’ Re-entry and Recover Facility in Escanaba.
National Retirement Fund for Religious
Like many Americans, religious communities face rising retirement and health-care costs and often struggle to provide for elderly members. Please support the Retirement Fund for Religious collection at Mass.
Catholic University Collection
Your contributions will strengthen the work of our top scholars. Located in Washington D.C., the University provides an education based in Catholic intellectual tradition to almost 7,000 students.
ST. JOSEPH ASSOCIATION/GOOD SHEPHERD COLLECTION ANNOUNCEMENTS
Bulletin Insert #1
For weekend of August 22nd/23rd, 2020
The Diocese of Marquette is blessed with many senior (retired) priests (those who are no longer assigned to a parish). These men make present Christ, the Good Shepherd, and continue to give of themselves in countless ways of service for which we are grateful.
As is the case with many pension plans in today’s world, our priests’ retirement program is not fully funded. On September 5/6th, our Diocese will take up a special collection to support our priests’ retirement and help remedy the shortfall in the St. Joseph Association.
Due to the suspension of Masses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Good Shepherd Collection was postponed earlier this year. We appreciate the generous gifts made using designated collection envelopes this spring and encourage those who were not able to donate earlier this year to support the collection by marking a blank envelope for the benefit of the “Good Shepherd Collection” and dropping it in the collection basket on September 5/6th, 2020. Parishioners can also donate to the St. Joseph Association online by visiting dioceseofmarquette.org/giving.
Bulletin Insert #2
For weekend of August 29th/30th, 2020
Retired priests of the Diocese of Marquette receive health and automobile insurance and a monthly pension from the St. Joseph Association, the diocesan priest retirement fund. Diocesan priests live independently during their retirement, and they use their pension for basic needs, such as food, housing and transportation. Parish assessments, plus growth in the St. Joseph Association, have fallen short of what is needed to provide necessary benefits to our retired priests.
All parishes and missions in the Diocese of Marquette will participate in a special collection on September 5/6th to help “bridge the gap.” It is essential that we ensure adequate retirement and health coverage in the years ahead for our priests, especially in these uncertain times.
Due to the suspension of Masses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Good Shepherd Collection was postponed earlier this year. We appreciate the generous gifts made using designated collection envelopes this spring and encourage those who were not able to donate earlier this year to support the collection at next weekends’ Masses.
Bulletin Insert #3
For collection weekend – September 5th/6th, 2020
This weekend all parishes and missions in the Diocese of Marquette are holding a Good Shepherd Sunday special collection to support our priests’ retirement fund, called the St. Joseph Association. This collection directly benefits priests of the Diocese of Marquette and is separate from the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, which supports retired clergy and sisters of religious orders across America.
Due to the suspension of Masses in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Good Shepherd Collection was postponed earlier this year. Thank you to those who have already contributed to this collection earlier this year. I encourage those who have not donated to this fund to please prayerfully reflect on how you can best help support our own priests’ retirement by marking a blank envelope for the benefit of the “Good Shepherd Collection” and dropping it in the collection basket on September 5/6th, 2020. Parishioners can also donate to the St. Joseph Association online by visiting dioceseofmarquette.org/giving.
Bulletin Insert #4
Two weeks following collection weekend – September 19th/20th, 2020
On Labor Day weekend, our parish and all parishes and missions throughout our diocese took up a special collection to support our priests’ retirement fund, known as the St. Joseph Association. Collectively, our parishioners have raised $ AMOUNT to date. We truly appreciate your support. If you were unable to donate last weekend, you may still support our retired priests by returning your envelope marked for the benefit of the “Good Shepherd Collection” in today’s collection or by dropping it off at the parish office.
