DIOCESAN DAY OF CONSECRATED LIFE
Our brothers and sisters in Christ living consecrated lives make great contributions to our society, our diocese, our parishes and our parishioners. I welcome you and your parishioners to join me in celebrating the lives of these men and women who serve in many capacities and have dedicated their lives to contemplative prayer, teaching in our schools, taking care of the poor and the sick and bringing compassion and the love of Christ to those shunned by society.
Your observance on November 8, 2020, of this Diocesan Day of Consecrated Life in your parish(es) may include the “Prayer for the Year of Consecrated Life” (See ADDENDUM #1-Diocesandayofconsecratedlife), a focus on consecrated life in your homily, promoting vocations to consecrated life and honoring women religious and others who live a consecrated life who serve in your parish(es). Please see the attached Prayers of the Faithful that may be used on the Diocesan Day of Consecrated Life or throughout the year to pray for vocations.
DEPARTMENT OF EVANGELIZATION & EDUCATION
The National Evangelization Team is scheduled to be in our diocese from April 13-April 30, 2021. They offer retreats for youth from grades 7-12. Book your parish retreat now while most of the dates are still open. To schedule the team to come to your parish or for more information please contact Katelyn McKeen email@example.com.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION TIMES
The U.P. Catholic occasionally publishes a list of Eucharistic Adoration times for parishes across the diocese. These are also available on the diocesan website at www.dioceseofmarquette.org/adoration. Please review the times listed on the website. If your parish needs to be added to the list or your times need to be corrected, please send the new information or updated times to firstname.lastname@example.org or mail them to The U.P. Catholic, 1004 Harbor Hills Dr., Marquette, MI 49855.
COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE PLAN
All Parishes and Missions are instructed to complete the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan template included in ADDENDUM #2 and adopt these policies as soon as possible. Employers must share completed policies with all parish/mission employees and require them to sign acknowledgment forms (located on page 20 of these policies).
Parish and Mission employees are also required to record COVID-19 screening data when working on-site at the office. Please use the Daily Entry Questionnaire included in ADDENDUM #3 as a template form for collecting this information. These forms should be maintained at the parish office for contact tracing purposes.
PPP LOAN FORGIVENESS
While many of you are eager to apply for PPP loan forgiveness as soon as possible, we are advising that you wait. At the moment, many lenders are not ready to process the applications, and several are developing tools to make the process more efficient. In addition, if repayment is deemed necessary (for all, or a portion of the loan), payments are not required until 10 months after the covered period.
OPEN ENROLLMENT IS COMING - 10/15/2020-11/4/2020
Just a reminder that Open Enrollment for employee benefits will take occur from October 15th through November 4th, 2020. Parish Bookkeepers will receive Open Enrollment information from Michigan Catholic Conference in early to mid-October. If you have any questions regarding this year’s Open Enrollment, please contact Michigan Catholic Conference at (800) 395-5565 for assistance.
2020 PARISH GOVERNANCE REPORT
The Governance Report was due to the Diocese September 30, 2020. If your parish has not yet submitted a 2020 report, please send your Parish Governance Report to the Diocese, Attn: Irene McCauley or email@example.com. Access to this report is available on the Diocesan website http://dioceseofmarquette.org/forms and has been included as ADDENDUM #4. Please contact Irene McCauley with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 1-800-562-9745, ext. 135.
PARISH USE OF VOTER GUIDES
The Internal Revenue Code prohibits charitable organizations, including churches, from participating or intervening in political campaigns on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for political office. Permissible activities include the distribution of unbiased voter guides. Please refer to Bishop Doerfler’s Voter Guide under ADDENDUM #5 when preparing to distribute parish voter guides for the upcoming election. This document is also available on the Diocesan website under https://www.dioceseofmarquette.org/images/files/VoterGuide2020-complete.pdf.
403(B) RETIREMENT PLAN MAXIMUM CONTRIBUTIONS
Please be aware the maximum contribution per individual is $19,500 unless the employee is age 50 or over. Members over 50 years of age are allowed an additional "catch-up" contribution of $6,500. Since there still are several months left in 2020, it is a good time to evaluate your individual contributions to your 403(b) plan. Are you maximizing the amount you can contribute? Are you sure you will not exceed the maximum contribution amount by year end? If you have questions, please feel free to contact Irene at email@example.com or 800-562-9745, Ext. 135.
