CATECHETICAL OPPORTUNITY FOR PRIESTS AND DEACONS AND YOUR PARISHIONERS
The Liturgical Institute at the University of Our Lady of the Lake, Mundelein Seminary recently developed 14 on-line video courses on the liturgy.  They normally charge $97.00 for each course which consists of five one-hour videos but have given free access to all priests and deacons of the Diocese of Marquette to the course entitled “The Art of Celebrating Mass.”  To access these videos, click on the link below, select the course, click on “buy for $97.00” and enter the Coupon Code that I emailed to you today.  You will be charged nothing.  This is only for the clergy of the diocese, so please do not share the Coupon Code.

The Liturgical Institute also has developed a video course entitled “An Introduction to the Sacred Liturgy” that is being offered at no charge to the lay faithful.  This course also consists of five one-hour sessions and is very well done.  Please share the link below with your parishioners and have them select that class for which there is no charge. The link to the classes is:  https://liturgy.teachable.com/courses/. For more information, please contact Deacon Tom Foye at (906) 362-2002 or tfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org.

RITE OF ELECTION
Mark your calendars now for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion which will take place on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at St. Peter Cathedral at 3:30pm ET. Inform any catechumens or candidates in your parish to put this date on their calendars and plan on attending.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the number of attendees from each parish will be limited to ensure the Bishop’s COVID safety guidelines will be followed including masking and social distancing.

All parishes should fill out this form even if your parish will not be attending.  It can be accessed by clicking here

Please direct any questions to Denise Foye at (906) 227-9130 or email her at dfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org.

SPITZER CENTER: FREE VIDEO RESOURCE FOR PARISHES, SCHOOLS, AND FAMILIES
Many schools and parish faith formation programs are continuing to adapt during the pandemic. With styles of teaching varying from in-person to online to hybrid, students continue to ask questions like, “Does God exist” and “Do I have a soul?”.  They speculate whether humans came from chimpanzees and why do Catholics seem to be against evolution. They wonder why women are not allowed in the Catholic priesthood.  The questions are endless, and these questions keep youth from a conversation of heart towards belief in God and towards what the Church teaches.

The Magis Center’s Catholic Education content, Credible Catholic recognizes the need to have quick access to solid, apologetical answers to student’s honest questions on faith and so it has produced a video series to answer these questions for you. The Most Asked Questions video series answers your student’s most pression questions in short five- to ten-minute videos.   For free access to some of the most popular videos on “Science” and “Purpose in Suffering”  click here.

FRATELLI TUTTI MATERIALS AVAILABLE
The encyclical of Pope Francis on fraternity and social friendship, “Fratelli tutti,” according to Bishop John Doerfler, “shines a light on the path forward for humanity to help heal the bitter divisions that we see around the world.” To help bring that light to our diocese, Bishop Doerfler has written a series of five columns appearing in The U.P. Catholic newspaper beginning in December and continuing through April 2021.

The diocesan communications department has developed a webpage on the diocesan website at www.dioceseofmarquette.org/fratellitutti featuring all five columns, along with links to the full encyclical and additional materials. For parish use, a series of quotes from the pope may be found in the Bulletin Announcements section of this Communicator.

COVID-19 PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE PLAN
All parishes, missions, and schools were instructed to complete and adopt policies using the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan template (Addendum #1 and Addendum #2) last month. As a reminder, employers must share COVID-19 Preparedness and Response policies with all employees and require them to sign acknowledgment forms (located on page 20 of the policy template).
Employees are also required to record COVID-19 screening data when working on-site at the office. Please use the Daily Entry Questionnaires included in Addendum #3 and Addendum #4 as template forms for collecting this information. These forms should be maintained at the parish office for contact tracing purposes.

Parishes and schools may elect to use an online template for recording COVID-19 Daily Entry form data through Jotform. This option is an alternative to the paper form, and the use of either method is acceptable for parish/school data collection. Please find instructions for the use of the online template included in Addendum #5. Parishes and schools can find the Online Daily COVID-19 Screening Form linked here and also located at dioceseofmarquette.org/administrativepolicies.

Please also see Addendum #6 for clarifications on the COVID-19 policies and questionnaire. Parishes and schools may also refer to the Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) poster included in Addendum #7 as an additional reference tool. Please contact Tim Thomas at tthomas@dioceseofmarquette.org with any questions regarding the COVID-19 Preparedness and Response plan or screening data collection.

MISSION COMBINED COLLECTION - JANUARY 9TH-10TH, 2021
All parishes in the Diocese of Marquette will be taking up the 2020 Mission Collection on January 9th-10th, 2021.  The Mission Collection supports the following outreach ministries to the Universal Church: the Black & Indian Missions, Catholic Home Missions, the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa, and the Propagation of the Faith Mission. Parish bookkeepers are advised to use the Collection Counting Sheet (Addendum #9) and to divide unspecified Mission fund donations evenly between the four individual collections. Bookkeepers may then complete the updated Combined Collection Transmittal Form found in Addendum #10 to include with their payment to the Diocese. Please make checks out to "Diocese of Marquette-Mission Collection."

Please see the Bulletin Announcements section for an advertisement that can be placed in your parish bulletins to promote this collection. Parishes may also print and use the Addendum #11 Mission Collection flyer as an optional bulletin insert. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.

MISSION COMBINED COLLECTION - JANUARY 9TH-10TH, 2021

Black & Indian Missions
The Black and Indian Mission Collection exists to help local African American and Native American diocesan communities throughout the United States spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and respond to real and pressing needs. This collection advances causes important to native and African American Catholics.

Catholic Home Missions
"Home Missions” is the name for dioceses and parishes in the United States, including its territories and former territories, which cannot provide basic pastoral services to Catholics without outside help. Basic pastoral services include Mass and sacraments, religious education, and ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters and lay people.

Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa
While the Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care. Many suffer due to high rates of poverty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. The Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa supports pastoral projects that foster lasting peace and reconciliation in a continent often marked by division and tension.

Propagation of the Faith
The Society for the Propagation of the Faith is vital to the missionaries serving in 1,150 dioceses throughout Asia, Africa, parts of Latin America and Europe, and on the Islands of the Pacific. Your generosity makes it possible for local priests, religious, and catechists to reach out to communities, families and children in desperate need, bringing the light of Christ to the darkest of circumstances covering more than half the globe.
