All parishes and missions are reminded that changes to the supplemental portion of the Standardized Personnel Policy are due to the Diocese by September 1, 2021. Any parishes planning to add or remove sections which affect benefits administered by Michigan Catholic Conference (including short-term or long-term disability benefits, as well as health, dental, vision, or life insurance coverage) should also contact MCC by no later than September 1st to ensure that these benefit changes are processed for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.
If you are unsure of whether your parish submitted changes to its supplementary personnel policies, please contact Irene McCauley to verify that your policy was received and approved. Once supplemental policies are approved by the Diocese, copies will be returned to the parish for approval by the pastor and parish finance council before taking effect.
Parish bookkeepers are also reminded that all parish employees must also sign policy acknowledgement forms to be recorded in employee personnel files.
A copy of the supplemental personnel policies can be found on the diocesan website at http://www.dioceseofmarquette.org/administrativepolicies and in Addendum #2 of this Communicator.
INTERNAL CONTROL POLICY CHANGES INCLUDE REQUIRED TAMPER EVIDENT BAG USE AND LIMITS TO PARISH CHECKING ACCOUNTS
Bishop Doerfler promulgated an updated Internal Control Policy, effective April 1, 2021. There should only be one checking account.
For those parishes who have not already instituted procedures using tamper-evident collection bags, please contact the Diocese now to receive a one-year supply for your church and refer to Addendum #4 for use procedures. If you are already using these bags and need to order more, please see the new order form in Addendum #5. Connover Packaging also redesigned the closure on its bags in the past year to improve the quality of tamper-evident containers. Please see Addendum #6 for a printable instruction sheet for first-time users or new collection volunteers. WORLD CHURCH COMBINED COLLECTION - JUNE 12/13TH, 2021
Catholic Relief Services Overseas Fund
Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. Funds will help six Catholic agencies to provide relief and support to struggling communities and to work toward peace and reconciliation among our marginalized brothers and sisters here and around the world.
Holy Land & National Communications Collection
The political, religious, and military challengers in the Holy Land are more complex than ever. The wars, unrest, and instability have been especially hard on Christians. The Holy Land Collection offers hope to the Holy Land Christians in these times of hardship. The National Communications collection helps connect people to Christ, here and around the world, through the internet, television, radio, and print media. A portion of the funds collected will remain here in the Diocese of Marquette to support our local efforts.
Peter’s Pence Collection (Collection for the Holy Father)
The Peter’s Pence Collection enables the Holy Father to respond with emergency financial assistance to requests to aid the neediest throughout the world—those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. It likewise provides the faithful with a tangible opportunity to not only empower the weak, defenseless, and voiceless, but also sustain those who suffer.
