TEACHING THE FAITH
The Fellowship of Catholic Scholars has made available to clergy a website feature periodic newsletter, free of charge. Each monthly installment of Teaching the Faith makes use of the scriptural readings for a given Sunday in order to provide clergy with assistance in preparing homilies on doctrinal topics, difficult and perhaps controversial subjects of current importance, and themes in Catholic prayer and spirituality. The website may be found at: https://www.catholicscholars.org/TTFlist.php

WEEKLY WEEKEND MASS ATTENDANCE COUNTS

Please continue to input your weekly weekend Mass attendance counts (for all Vigil and Sunday Masses combined) each week. The weekly Mass Attendance counts will give us a baseline for our Mass attendance as we work together to increase Mass attendance through evangelization efforts discussed in Bishop John’s Pastoral Letter on Evangelization, entitled: “Transforming Fire: A New Pentecost to form Spirit-Filled Evangelizers”. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Bishop at (906)-227-9115. Weekly Weekend Mass Attendance Counts Form Link.

ACTION ALERT: HOUSE INTRODUCES EXTREME PRO-ABORTION APPROPRIATIONS BILL
This week, the House Committee on Appropriations will mark up the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) appropriations bill, which currently excludes the 46-year-old Hyde Amendment and other longstanding, bipartisan provisions including the Weldon Amendment. Eliminating these provisions would force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions and force health care providers and professionals to perform and refer for abortion against their deeply-held beliefs, as well as force employers and insurers to cover and pay for abortion. To learn more and make your voice heard, visit the USCCB's Action Center.

PRIEST & DEACON LETTERS OF GOOD STANDING
Priests or Deacons of the diocese that will be traveling outside of the Diocese of Marquette should request a Letter of Good Standing prior to their departure.  As the letter needs to be signed by the Chancellor, the request should be submitted as soon as possible.  To submit a Priest Letter of Good Standing Request, complete the online form at: Priest Letter of Good Standing Request Form.

To submit a Deacon Letter of Good Standing Request, complete the online form at: Deacon Letter of Good Standing Request Form.
The forms may also be found at: www.dioceseofmarquette.org/forms

STATUS OF LITURGICAL BOOKS
Addendum #4 displays the current dates of our liturgical books. Books with the most recent date must be used in our celebration of the Sacraments. Most of these, if they are still in print, can be purchased at Amazon or your favorite Liturgical Bookstore. When ordered, please make sure you are getting books with the most recent date. Don’t assume this is always the case. Questions may be directed to Deacon Tom Foye by email at tfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org.

DEPARTMENT OF MINISTRY & PERSONNEL

SAFE ENVIRONMENT
Annual Internal Audits – The Internal Audits are now an annual requirement. Paperwork for the following vicariates was mailed earlier this year:
The Most Holy Name of Jesus
Holy Name of Mary
St. Joseph & St. Patrick
If you have not returned it to the diocesan Safe Environment department, please complete it and send it in this month. The other four vicariates will be sent their mailings throughout the remainder of the calendar year. This audit ensures that each parish and school are following the Safe Environment Policy and the diocese is in compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. If you have any questions, please reach out to Martha Tomasi at the diocese (906) 227-9155 or mtomasi@dioceseofmarquette.org.

Faith Formation Delegation of Responsibilities Form - The Safe Environment department and the Faith Formation Departments have worked together to develop a Faith Formation Coordinator Delegation of Responsibilities form. This form is like the Local Safe Environment Coordinator Delegation of Responsibilities form in that the position is appointed by the pastor and the job responsibilities are spelled out and agreed upon by the FFC. Watch for this form to arrive at your parish or school in mid-August. We will need these signed forms back at the diocese before your Faith Formation classes begin.

Cancellation of In-Person Protecting God’s Children Training – The Protecting God’s Children training will be completed entirely online for the 2021-2022 year. This decision was made because of two factors: 1. The COVID-19 virus is still a threat. Although this group is small, we felt it best to err on the side of caution. 2. With the wide-spread availability of the internet and smart devices, attendance for the classroom sessions has declined over the last five years to one or two students per session. All required Protecting God’s Children, and refresher training, will be completed on-line by the applicant. Accommodations for those without internet access will be made. Please contact Martha Tomasi at the diocese for more information. (906) 227-9155 or mtomasi@dioceseofmarquette.org

NATIONAL CHURCH COMBINED COLLECTION – AUGUST 14/15, 2021
All parishes in the Diocese of Marquette will take up the 2021 National Church Collection on August 14/15, 2021. The National Church Collection supports the following outreach ministries to the Universal Church: the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the National Retirement Fund for Religious, and the Catholic University Collection. Parish bookkeepers are advised to divide unspecified National Church fund donations evenly between the three individual collections using the Collection Counting Sheet. Bookkeepers may then complete their Combined Collection Transmittal forms to include with their payment to the Diocese. These collection resources can be found at dioceseofmarquette.org/administrativepolicies. Please make checks out to “Diocese of Marquette-National Church Collection.”

Please see the Bulletin Announcements section for an announcement that can be placed in your parish bulletins to promote this collection.  Parishes may also print and use the Addendum #1 National Church Collection flyer as an optional bulletin insert. Please email imccauley@dioceseofmarquette.org to request a copy of this flyer in JPG format. We appreciate your attention to this very important matter.

2021 PARISH ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT (PAFR)
PAFR submissions will be due to the Diocese by August 31, 2021. PAFR submissions must include Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet), Statement of Revenue & Expense (Income Statement), and 2021-2022 Budget attachments for each parish submission. Please get in touch with Irene McCauley with questions on PAFR submission requirements or for general form assistance. Irene can be reached directly at (906) 227-9135.

STANDARDIZED PERSONNEL POLICY CHANGE REMINDER
All parishes and missions are reminded that changes to the supplemental portion of the Standardized Personnel Policy are due to the Diocese by September 1, 2021. Any parishes planning to make changes to benefits administered by Michigan Catholic Conference (including short-term or long-term disability benefits, as well as health, dental, vision, or life insurance coverage) should also contact MCC by no later than September 1 to ensure that these changes are processed for January 1, 2022. Please call 800-395-5565 to report offering changes to MCC Benefits.

If you are unsure whether your parish submitted changes to its supplementary personnel policies, please contact
Irene McCauley to verify that your policy was received and approved. All parishes must submit parish supplemental policy drafts to the Diocese before implementing new policies at their parishes. Once the diocesan staff approve supplemental policies, copies will be returned to the parish for approval by the pastor and parish finance council before taking effect.

Parish bookkeepers are also reminded that all parish employees must also sign policy acknowledgment forms to be recorded in employee personnel files.

A copy of the supplemental personnel policies can be found on the diocesan website at http://www.dioceseofmarquette.org/administrativepolicies and in Addendum #2 of this Communicator.

UPCSA WEEKEND IS SEPTEMBER 25/26, 2021
The theme of the 54th U.P. Catholic Services Appeal is “Transformation through Mission.” Most UPCSA materials will be distributed to churches in August. Included are tri-fold brochures to be distributed with the pledge cards and authorization cards. Bulletin Inserts (one sheet, folded) should be placed inside the parish bulletins on UPCSA weekend. The “record of pledges” spreadsheet, used to transmit your parish member pledge and payment info to the diocese, will be emailed to your parish by early September. The UPCSA handbook, containing timelines, sample letters, and other useful information you need will be available on our website in September at www.dioceseofmarquette.org/upcsa. UPCSA goals have been emailed to parishes already and are also on the diocesan website. Contact Wendy Negri at wnegri@dioceseofmarquette.org or at 1.800.562.9745 ext. 104 with any UPCSA questions or to arrange for pick-up of your materials if someone from your parish will be in the Marquette area in August or early September.
