ACTION ALERTS-SIGN UP TO KEEP INFORMED ON PERTINENT ISSUES
To help keep Catholics informed of pertinent issues on both the State and National level, I encourage Catholics to sign up for notices from the Michigan Catholic Conference and the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.  These vehicles issue timely notices and information on issues pertinent to the Catholic Church.

If you have not already signed up for these action alerts, I encourage you to do so.  I would also ask you to help me spread the word about these valuable resources that help to keep Catholics informed and enable them to take timely action on important issues.

You may sign up for alerts from the Michigan Catholic Conference by following this link: http://www.micatholic.org/advocacy/catholic-advocacy-network/.

You may sign up for alerts from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops by following this link: https://www.votervoice.net/USCCB/home

Rev. Daniel Moll

PLEASE CANCEL YOUR VIGIL MASSES ON CHRISTMAS DAY
In the last Communicator, I had an entry concerning Christmas Evening Masses on Dec. 25th.  I mentioned that all Vigil Masses on Christmas Day “should” be cancelled.  I just came from a Vicariate meeting where it was mentioned that the word “should” left other options open.  I want to make it clear that Bishop John wants there to be no Masses scheduled on Saturday Evening, December 25th throughout the Diocese of Marquette this year due to the Church Calendar.  Questions may be directed to Deacon Tom Foye at tfoye@dioceseofmarquette.org

DEPARTMENT OF MINISTRY PERSONNEL

PRAYER REQUESTS & HEALTH UPDATES
If you know of a priest, deacon, Women Religious or seminarian in need of prayers, please e-mail the information to Martha Tomasi, Department of Ministry Personnel, Mtomasi@dioceseofmarquette.org.

TRAUMA HEALING INSTITUTE RESOURCES
The Trauma Healing Institute has many free resources to assist in a biblical approach to healing after traumatic events from disasters to Covid-19.  These can be used personally, by caregivers, in the parish, or small groups.  You can find their resources at https://traumahealinginstitute.org/resources.  The “Beyond Disaster Booklet” may be of particular interest as you seek to fulfill Pope Francis’s call for the Church to be a field hospital that must heal wounds prior to teaching Gospel truths or their won’t take lasting root.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT - Children
Reminder: Children’s Safe Environment training materials are to be taught in the fall of each year. This is so children, who miss the lesson due to illness or weather, have time to make up the lesson before the end of the year.
Reminder: Reports of number of children trained, using the JotForm on the diocesan website, are due by January 31st. Reports for make-up training are due by March 31st. All children should be trained before April 1st. https://dioceseofmarquette.org/childrenssafeenvironment.
Reminder: Children’s Safe Environment Materials are to be taught in the classroom and not send home for the parents to instruct. The materials for grades 1-4 have been updated to reflect this requirement. Sole parental instruction was only allowed in 2020 when social distancing was in place and Zoom classes were being held. https://dioceseofmarquette.org/childrenssafeenvironment.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT – Adults
Reminder: Employee applicants and interested volunteers must have a background check application on file in the diocesan office and, completed current Safe Environment training prior to being offered employment or becoming active as a volunteer. Approved and in-process applicants are listed on the Master Spreadsheet. Please, always reference this document prior to allowing anyone to work or volunteer in any capacity in your parish or school. If you need assistance navigating the Google spreadsheet, please contact Martha at (906) 227-9155. Master Spreadsheet link:   Safe Environment Employees & Volunteers.
Reminder: The Safe Environment Policy requires all volunteers and employees to complete refresher training every five years. This training, Keeping the Promise Alive, is assigned by me in early January to all known active clergy, employees, and volunteers. A reminder is sent to the individual if an active email address is listed in their VIRTUS account. Training assignments are noted in red on the Master Spreadsheet and updated as individuals complete their training. Please work with your active employees and volunteers to ensure the training is completed prior to active involvement at the parish or school.
Reminder: Safe Environment Internal Audits are now an annual requirement. Please be sure that you return all requested documentation including a complete list of your volunteers and employees, not just catechists. Those parishes without children are not exempt from completing the forms and returning all of the requested documentation.

MISSON COMBINED COLLECTION – JANUARY 8TH-9TH, 2022
All parishes in the Diocese of Marquette will be taking up the 2022 Mission Collection on January 8th-9th, 2022. The Mission Collection supports the following outreach ministries to the Universal Church: the Black & Indian Missions, Catholic Home Missions, the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa, and the Propagation of the Faith Mission. Parish bookkeepers are advised to use the Collection Counting Sheet (Addendum #5) and to divide unspecified Mission fund donations evenly between the four individual collections. Bookkeepers may then complete the updated Combined Collection Transmittal Form found in Addendum #6 to include with their payment to the Diocese. Please make checks out to "Diocese of Marquette-Mission Collection."

Please see the Bulletin Announcements section for an advertisement that can be placed in your parish bulletins to promote this collection. Parishes may also print and use the Addendum #7 Mission Collection flyer as an optional bulletin insert. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter.
