TEACHING THE FAITH
The Fellowship of Catholic Scholars has made available to clergy a website feature periodic newsletter, free of charge.  Each monthly installment of Teaching the Faith makes use of the scriptural readings for a given Sunday in order to provide clergy with assistance in preparing homilies on doctrinal topics, difficult and perhaps controversial subjects of current importance, and themes in Catholic prayer and spirituality. The website may be found at:  https://www.catholicscholars.org/TTFlist.php.

WEEKLY WEEKEND MASS ATTENDANCE COUNTS
Please continue to input your weekly weekend Mass attendance counts (for all Vigil and Sunday Masses combined) each week.  The weekly Mass Attendance counts will give us a baseline for our Mass attendance as we work together to increase Mass attendance through evangelization efforts discussed in Bishop John’s Pastoral Letter on Evangelization, entitled:  “Transforming Fire: A New Pentecost to form Spirit-Filled Evangelizers”.  If you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Bishop at (906)-227-9115.   Weekly Weekend Mass Attendance Counts Form Link.

DIOCESAN PRAYER CALENDAR
A diocesan prayer calendar is available for 2022, which contains the names of our priests, deacons, women religious, seminarians, parishes and general intercessions.  Join us in praying for our dedicated religious, as well as the parishioners of our parishes.  Please refer to Addendum #1 for the Diocesan Prayer Calendar 2022.

MASS STIPENDS AND MASS INTENTIONS
Just a reminder:  Any parish that has more Mass intentions and Mass stipends than they can satisfy in a year should send the Mass intentions and corresponding Mass stipend check to the diocesan office c/o:  MaryAnn Bernier, Office of the Bishop, 1004 Harbor Hills Drive, Marquette, MI  49855   You will receive a letter acknowledging our acceptance of the responsibility to see that the Mass intentions are celebrated.  The Mass intentions and stipends will be distributed to senior priests of the diocese who celebrate Masses or may be distributed to parishes who are in need of Mass intentions.  (Canon 953 No one is permitted to accept more offerings for Masses to be applied by himself than he can satisfy within a year).

DOMAIN NAME REGISTRATION BEST PRACTICES
If your parish or other organization owns a domain name (such as www.stjudehelpusquickparish.org) make sure that it is:
  • Owned by your parish. In other words it is not registered and solely administered by a volunteer or other person in their name.
  • The contact emails, phone numbers and addresses are parish contacts.
  • More than one person or phone number is listed on the account and can take control of the account in case something goes wrong.
  • The point of the first three bullets is that owners/administrators have full control (ownership) of your domain name. Should a volunteer suddenly move, or a small business run by an individual go under, you could easily lose your domain name if the parish is not listed as an owner and/or contact.
  • Renew your registration at least a year in advance. For instance, register a new domain name for two years (or more), then renew the registration every following year for an additional year. This way if someone forgets to renew on time, there’s some padding to keep from losing a domain name. It can be very costly to renew an expired domain name, if that’s even an option.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact John Fee at jfee@dioceseofmarquette.org or call (906) 227-9129.

STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE
Christian stewardship is not a “program” or a “once and done” kind of thing. It is a way of life, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, that is both privileged and challenging. The following sites are relevant to all parishioners and are updated regularly. Share them frequently, in whole or in part, to support the faithful in their stewardship journey. Post to parish social media, use in parish bulletin, email, newsletters. Add website links to your parish website. Forward to pertinent parish committees.
  1. Monthly stewardship email. Invite people to subscribe here. We do not share subscriber emails outside of our organization.
  2. Many resources for parish, school, donors, and more are available for download on our website.
  3. Your Gift Matters. Our interactive estate planning website is loaded with information, videos, downloadable brochures, and more.
  4. Yooper Catholic is the digital arm of the Diocese of Marquette communications department. Its mission is to connect Yoopers together by sharing the stories of God’s work in and through the Church in the U.P.
  5. The UP Catholic Foundation connects faith with charitable giving through long-term support for the future needs of Catholic ministries in the Diocese of Marquette.

MY CATHOLIC GIVING GUIDE
Christian stewardship teaches us to make prayerful and proportionate returns to God from our gifts of time, talent and treasure, and to give back to God from “first fruits.” Help your parish families to practice good stewardship by sharing this handy planning tool at the beginning of each calendar year, when many families plan their annual family budget.
Use the bulletin insert, “My Catholic Giving Guide.”  (Addendum #7), along with a brief inspirational message from the pastor.
  1. Upload the Guide to your parish website
  2. Link to the Guide on social media.
  3. Place copy in new parishioner welcome packet; leave copies in your gathering space.

BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS

COLLECTION FOR THE U.P. CATHOLIC NEWSPAPER
Support your parish by supporting The U.P. Catholic Newspaper collection on February 12th-13th, 2022. Your donation goes to your parish to help pay its portion of the subscription cost for the diocesan newspaper, which is mailed to all registered Catholic households. If your parish does not take up this collection, you can still contribute by placing your donation in an envelope marked “The U.P. Catholic Newspaper” and dropping it in your parish collection basket or at your parish office. You can also donate to this collection online by visiting https://dioceseofmarquette.org/giving.

COLLECTION FOR DIOCESAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
The Marquette Diocesan Catholic Schools collection is March 2nd (Ash Wednesday) or March 6th (first Sunday of Lent). Funds from this collection support all our Catholic Schools in their mission to teach our Catholic Liberal Arts curriculum, which forms our children both spiritually and academically. Your support provides critical tuition assistance for families who might not otherwise be able to send their children to a Catholic school. An envelope has been provided for registered parishioners to participate in this year’s collection. You can also donate to this collection online by visiting https://dioceseofmarquette.org/giving. We thank you in advance for your generous support of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Marquette!
