During the Jubilee Year, which officially begins on Dec. 24, Catholics can gain a plenary indulgence by making a pious pilgrimage to their cathedral or to another church or shrine selected by the local bishop.
In the Diocese of Marquette, Bishop John Doerfler has designated the following as pilgrimage churches:
Bishop Doerfler said in the Nov. 22 issue of The U.P. Catholic, “At the local pilgrimage site, one is to either participate in Mass or any of the following: a celebration of the Word of God; the Liturgy of the Hours; the Stations of the Cross; the Rosary; a penance service, which ends with the individual confessions of the penitents.”
The Jubilee indulgence may be obtained with the normal conditions of Holy Communion, confession, prayers for the Holy Father and by making a pilgrimage to St. Peter Cathedral or any other churches in the Diocese of Marquette that have been designated as Jubilee pilgrimage sites.
