Partnerships between St. Francis Xavier and other churches in the region have resulted in joint councils and faith formation programs that provide for the needs of all Catholics in the region.
FOUNDING: Jesuit priests from Sault Ste. Marie began offering Mass in private homes in 1887. Father John F. Chambon, SJ, led the parish in constructing the original church prior to the 20th century. In 1906 a larger church was constructed. In 1909 Brimley was assigned a mission of St. Joseph Parish in Rudyard.
PARISH LIFE: In April 1926, an out-of-control grass fire destroyed both the Brimley church and rectory. The present church was built and dedicated in 1929. Remodeling was undertaken in the mid-1960s and a summer parish festival was suggested to raise funds for a parish hall. Work began on the multi-purpose center in 1976. A mobile home was purchased for use as a rectory.
In 1976, St. Francis Xavier was linked with Our Lady of Victory in Paradise. In 1991, the pastor of Brimley was given responsibility for the care of Holy Family in Barbeau and Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha in Bay Mills.
Since Jan. 1, 2017, St. Francis Xavier, St. Joseph of Rudyard, and St. Mary Mission of Trout Lake have been linked together with their current pastor being Rev. Timothy Hruska.
Volunteers have been making and selling pasties to raise money for the church for more than 35 years. The group gathers in the parish hall regularly to prepare 500 to 600 pasties each time. A restoration project, including a new roof and new windows (including stained glass), was partially funded by pasty sales. Pasty sales have also paid for a new furnace, new lights, parish celebrations, fresh flowers on the altar weekly, repairs and maintenace, renovations, appliance replacement, some hall expenses, as well as generous gifts to priest, seminarians, and community members in need.

Since the time of its founding, St. Joseph Church in Rudyard has shared its prosperity with surrounding communities. By sharing their pastor and supporting mission churches, Rudyard parishioners show their gratefulness to their founders and early missionaries. Founding: St. Joseph Parish was founded in 1886 by missionary priests who offered Mass in private homes in Rudyard, Pickford, Fibre and Kinross. A church was built in Rudyard in 1902. In 1922, a rectory was constructed and the parish was entrusted with the care of the St. Francis Xavier Mission in Brimley. Parish Life: The original church was replaced in 1941. The first Mass was offered in the completed structure on Holy Thursday, April 10, 1941. St. Joseph's priests and parishioners cared for the St. Francis Xavier Mission in Brimley until 1965. Holy Family in Barbeau then became its mission. Since 1986, St. Joseph's has been entrusted with the care of the St. Mary Mission in Trout Lake. On June 28, 1986, Bishop Mark Schmitt celebrated a special Mass marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the parish. A banquet followed. A major renovation project was undertaken in 1989 when office space was added to the parish rectory. In 1991, St. Joseph parishioners started a library offering assistance for drug and alcohol addiction. The audio cassettes and videotapes, books and other self-help tools make up the largest collection of its kind in the U.P. Since January of 2017, St. Joseph has been in a diocesan linkage with St. Mary Mission of Trout Lake and St. Francis Xavier of Brimley. In addition to participating in active parish organizations for worship and liturgy, Christian service and evangelization, the people take part in regular celebrations, such as a monthly brunch, summer picnics, and sometimes, a fall harvest dinner.

Throughout the years, pastors serving other parishes in the diocese have also cared for the St. Mary Mission in Trout Lake. However, responsibility for the upkeep of church buildings and property, as well as for maintaining the spiritual vigor of church members, lies with the people who make up the congregation. Since the mission was founded in 1911, the people of St. Mary's continue to maintain the vitality of their faith community. FOUNDING: St. Mary Mission, located 18 miles northwest of Moran, was founded in 1911 as a mission of Engadine. The Moran pastor carried out the responsibility of caring for St. Mary's from June 1941 to 1986. The mission has since been with the St. Joseph Parish family of Rudyard in a linkage which includes St. Francis Xavier of Brimley, with Rev. Timothy Hruska currently as pastor.
PARISH LIFE: Ursuline Sisters serving at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in St. Ignace provided a summer religious education program for the youth of the mission. The church saw somewhat of a spiritual renewal among members in 1966 spurred on by the formation of the grade school girls' choir.
The original church structure served the people for 60 years. The altar society and the Holy Name Society helped support the mission. A new church building was constructed in 1970. The new structure was dedicated on March 21, 1971.
Regular attendance more than doubles in the summer months. In the winter, attendance increases with visiting snowmobilers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
